History of Face to Face Noodle House
Face to face noodle house is specialised in noodles especially on pan mee.

Pan mee (Chinese known as 板面) is a Hakka-style noodle, originating from Malaysia. It is part of Malaysian Chinese cuisine. The dough is made from flour (sometimes egg is added for more flavor). Traditionally, the dough is hand-kneaded and torn into smaller pieces of dough.

Pan mee is typically served in soup, together with dried anchovies, minced pork, mushrooms, and a leafy vegetable such as sweet potato leaves or sayur manis (sauropus androgynous)It can also be served dry with a thick black soya sauce (also known as dried pan mee).

The story of Face To Face began over 100 years ago, with the founder’s great-grandfather, who, in 1903, left China for Hong Kong to seek his fortune. He pioneered the now-ubiquitous Sarawakian Kolok Mee, using homemade noodles created with the technique he had mastered in Hong Kong, that is by mixing eggs, flour and other ingredients together by hand, then riding a bamboo log to knead the dough and produce chewy, springy noodles.

Over the years, the quality of Face To Face creations has captured the hearts, and stomachs, of the masses. Today, with minimal advertising but plenty of positive word-of-mouth from satisfied customers, Face To Face has expanded to 30 outlets within Malaysia, with more on the way.

For pan mee, you can choose how your pan mee it's going to be served. It could be pinch pan mee, thick or thin pan mee as well, just follow your own comfortable way.

We usually will order for the Chef Special Pan Mee, Spicy Pan Mee and Sarawak noodles– Mee Kolok as our dinner. The noodle house is crowded around 6pm, we have to wait for quite some time before the food arrives. It's not very long though (about 15-30mins).

Chef Special Pan Mee (RM6.50)
The Chef Special Pan Mee (Soup) is best and nice to eat. It contains fish balls, egg with yolk, pork lard and some ikan bilis where it's crunchy and you can chew on it while eating together with the Pan Mee.
Spicy Pan Mee (RM6.50)

Soup

This Spicy Pan Mee (Dry) comes together with a set of flavorful soup with meat balls. You can drench some soup to the noodle to moist it, it will be easier to eat, and it bring up the surprise after you drench the soup on the noodle. Trust me, you would love it!
Mee Kolok (Rm6.50)

Sarawak noodles– Mee Kolok. The chewy noodles served with minced pork and Char Siew, so simple, yet so irresistible!

They do provide their customers with a wide selection of ingredients and homemade chili sauce to go with the noodles. We were highly recommended you to mix together the chili flakes into the Pan Mee. You can feel the spiciness when you eat it but you will feel the satisfaction into maximum level.

A tray of assorted chili

The recommended chili flakes.

Wanton Soup

We also recommended the Wanton soup. The soup here tastes like it was simmered for long time and not using artificial flavorings.

Side dishes are available as well. We like to order their barley in wonderland (hot) and ice kacang.
Ice Kacang (Rm5.50)
Barley in wonderland (Rm5.00)
Apart from the above orders, you can also find other dishes like bread and nasi lemak. Besides that, there are few vegetarian dishes available too.

It was quite worth and reasonable for us to pay for the price since it was a big bowl of it. Even students like us can afford it.

Preparation
This shop is easy find and spotted as they cook the claypot chicken rice outside of their shop, whenever you pass by, you'll get to smell this delicious claypot chicken smell. The shop looked pretty in age, it has its stories behind it, you'll get to know more if you continue to watch this blog =P.

History of Claypot Chicken Rice
Now, come along as we take a short history of the dishes served by Restauran Fook Kee:

Claypot chicken rice is an Asian dinner dish and it is origin from China region. It is also mixed and cooked with the rice and chicken together in a clay pot. The dish is especially popular in Malaysia, Hong Kong, China and Singapore. Rice is a staple food in many southern regions or Asian countries. It is grown in paddy fields and grain without a strong flavor. Besides, it is usually boiled or steamed to cook and is also eaten with various type of meals.  For instance, fried rice is often made with egg and a mixture of vegetables.

Claypot chicken rice is easy to prepare and tastes absolutely delicious. There’s a reason that claypot rice is called a one-pot meal. Inside the claypot, you’ll get steamed rice served topped with delicious chicken meat chunks, Chinese sausages and chopped onions, and completed with some soy sauce and salted fish. The rice is cooked in the claypot first and the chicken is usually marinated in sesame oil and rice wine before being added to the rice. The entire mixture is then cooked in a traditionally of claypot, over a charcoal stove, so that it can absorb the flavors until its ready to serve.

There have many different parts of a chicken can be used for meat, but the most people eat are the breasts, thighs and legs, and wings. For the claypot chicken rice, it is usually used either breast meat or thigh meat, but any cut of chicken meat would be suitable. The breasts are boneless cuts of meat, taken from the underside of the chicken, and the thighs or legs, and wings are the limbs of chicken, which include a few bigger bones.

Value proposition of Restoran Fook Kee
Fook Kee serve a simple and easy menu for their customer:

Menu

2) Vegetable

If you want to add more chicken meats or salted fish or Chinese sausage in it, just inform them and they'll very welcome make it for you. The price will be different according to the ingredients you want to mix with.

Vegetable

There’s the man who’s outside manning all the claypots, while the lady boss is in charged of making the vegetables. Another lady will be the one putting all the ingredients on to a finished pot of rice.

Above picture is large size that was ordered by us and before mixed. The color looked pretty nice right?

It took 15-20 minutes to cook a pot of claypot chicken rice. We were very lucky as we only waited for about 15 minutes. Some customers after us have to wait for 30-40 minutes due to the crowd of customers. The portion is relatively huge and could easily accommodate 4-6 person.

We ordered 2 large size pot which enough for 5-6 people

The rice here is very fragrant, and cooked to perfection. Like every claypot chicken rice, there is some burn part stick inside bottom of the claypot. The sauce they cook the rice, is different from others, it is not salty but the smell and tasty is very nice.

We prefer to add in more Chinese sausage with little salted fish because we’re not a fans of salted fish. The spring onions may look just for better presentation but after mix, it'll bring better taste and aroma of the claypot chicken rice. So, you better to ask from the lady boss to add more spring onions for you. Chicken meats was well marinated and they are skinless. You may also add some chilies for additional spicy taste.

A quick mix of everything up before digging in!
Green Chilies
Besides, you also can order the drinks of the shop. We normally will order the barley because it taste good and special (mixed with soya).

Barley and Herbal drinks

The services provided by Restaurant Fook Kee quite good compare with   other claypot chicken rice shops. The waiter will tells customers that food will arrive bit late due to the long waiting list. Furthermore, the food comes very fast. This attract many customer support their shops always especially UTAR students.
